Hop Hogs & Harvest – discovering great growlers, grills, and grapes.
Welcome to HopHogs.com, our little corner of the Web dedicated to the pursuit of great growlers, grills, and grapes. Our site started with a dinner conversation with our wives and friends – a group of self-professed (and certified) BBQ, Beer and Wine enthusiasts swapping tips and experiences. Then after introducing hundreds of friends and colleagues to our learnings in person and online via Facebook, we decided to bring our experiences to our own site.
James W.
James is a little more traditional in his love of BBQ and the resident beer and wine expert. His love of BBQ started with his Dad always grilling for dinner when he had the chance. Nothing fancy, just something on his Weber. He learned many of basics from him and it was a great stepping stone. James has toured the West coast, having enjoyed some of the finer wines of California, Washington and Oregon along the way and shares his finds with family and friends over many a night over great food, great beer, great wine and most importantly with great friends. Outside HopHogs.com, James enjoys spending time w\ his wife and kids, playing golf, traveling, music, anything sports and trying to instill the same beliefs in my kids about Jar Jar Binks!
Nancy S. ”Girl on Grill”

Nancy’s love of grilling began over a decade ago when she and her husband designated Friday night as “charcoal” night. They fired up their Simpson’s special edition Weber Smokey Joe, and tried not to burn down their apartment building while cooking great food. Using Steve Raichlen’s BBQ Bible, Nancy learned to make the “perfect steak” on the Simpsons grill and from there she was hooked.
As Nancy’s grilling expertise grew, so did the list of items she regularly throws on the grill. In addition to the grilling staples, Nancy’s favorite things to grill i
nclude pizza, vegetables, desserts and fish. While she loves grilling, she has branched out to the wonderful world of smoking on a Weber Smokey Mountain (WSM) and is also a certified BBQ judge for both KCBS and PNWBA. Nancy loves anything Weber (Made in the USA!) and her pit currently includes a Weber Genesis (propane), Weber Performer (charcoal) and the Weber Smokey Mountain.
When possible, Nancy tries to source her meats and vegetables from local farms and is always on the quest for great local products. She is a firm believer that if you start with great products, it’s much easier to achieve great results. Some of her local favorites include: Tiny’s Organic, Dog Mountain Farm, Painted Hills Beef and all the great fish mongers at Pike Place Market.
When not grilling, Nancy enjoys spending time with her husband and two young children, travelling, golf, exercising and cheering on the Nebraska Cornhuskers. GO BIG RED!
Sean A.
Sean’s favorite equipment these days includes the Big Green Egg, Weber Smokey Mountain, RCS Infrared sear station and Weber Performer depending upon the meat and weather. Sean’s favorite rubs come from Dizzy Pig BBQ and is working through Adam Perry Lang’s, “Serious Barbecue“. When not playing with fire, Sean is skiing, scuba diving, running, playing Xbox, or explaining two his two young sons why Jar Jar Binks isn’t cool.
Jason’s past career, with the Navy EOD teams, has provided him the opportunity to travel the word and develop a taste for exceptional bbq and beverages that favor the hop; leaving no rock left unturned in the quest for great grilled cuisine and fine brews. His first attempt at brewing ended in a minor explosion coating everything in sight… Over the next 15 years he studied the art and has formulated some masterpieces around the treasured hop.
Along with any great pint is the need for stellar bbq. This is his next quest. To taste, discover and ultimately create some great tasting recipes to enjoy with family and friends.
When not working on a new creation, Jason tries to spend his time outdoors with wife & 3 kids camping, skiing / snowboarding & mountain-biking the trails of the PNW. His wife and kids, surprisingly, have no idea of Jar Jar Binks!
Cheers!
